What's Actually Included in a Full Car Detail?
Interior, exterior, engine bay, headlights — here's exactly what a professional full detail covers and how long it takes.
A 'full detail' means different things at different shops. Here's what a real, professional full detail covers — and what should be included before you pay for one.
Exterior
Hand wash with pH-neutral soap, wheels and tires deep-cleaned, clay bar to remove bonded contaminants, light paint decontamination, sealant or wax, glass cleaned inside and out, and tires dressed.
Interior
Full vacuum (seats, carpets, trunk, and crevices), steam clean of upholstery and carpet, leather cleaned and conditioned, dashboard and panels wiped and protected, vents and cup holders detailed, and interior glass streak-free.
Extras often included
Headlight cleaning, door jambs wiped, engine bay light cleaning, and odor neutralization. Heavy pet hair, severe stains, or biohazards are typically charged as add-ons.
How long it takes
A real full detail takes 4–7 hours depending on size and condition. Anything advertised as a 'full detail' for under 2 hours is almost certainly cutting steps.
If you're paying for a full detail, ask exactly what's included. A proper one transforms the car — not just makes it look freshly washed.
